A single App on multiple iPhones (or iPod touch)

Dear all

Following a few e-mails, conversations and forum posts on project sites, I thought I would clarify how you can purchase a single iPhone application and use it on multiple college devices.

The Apple Terms of Use for ANY application submitted to the App Store is quite clear.

From http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/appstore/uk/terms.html

This license granted to you for the Licensed Application by Application Provider is limited to a non-transferable license to use the Licensed Application on any iPhone or iPod touch that you own or control.

Of course this means that the devices have to be sync'd to a single iTunes account, but that can make sense.

So buy one application and sync to 50 or a 100 or more college owned devices would be fine legally.

An opportunity to become involved ......

I do apologise if you have already received the flyer about the new and exciting ITQ for Mobile Learning. It’s not too late to sign up and become involved in the LSN pilot, which starts on 23^rd September. This is a free opportunity to those involved in MoLeNET so an opportunity not to be missed!

You may know that ITQ is the best IT qualification for staff development as it allows them to gain recognition and gain credit for the skills they are developing by being involved in MoLeNET– technical as well as pedagogical skills in delivering m-learning.

This is a unique IT qualification as it allows staff to bring evidence from their Teacher Training qualification as credit towards ITQ. So teaching methodology links with use of m-technologies nicely to form ITQ for Mobile Learning. It’s an opportunity for you too if you are a manager as you can bring evidence from a Project Management qualification in the same way.

In this pilot we aim to offer high quality training and support so that throughout the 9 months not only will you receive advice and guidance about ITQ, and how to deliver a wide range of Units in-house, but also receive training such as podcasting, editing video, creating m-quizzes etc

So you've been making podcasts, how do you publish them, how do you get them out there, how do your learners subscribe to them? Covering more than just iTunes with a look at a range of technologies that allow you to distribute your podcasts.

Making the most of an online conference

Each conference lasts for about an hour, so it makes sense to put this time in your diary, shut the office door, turn off the phone, exit Outlook, tell your staff you're busy.

What technology do you use?

The MoLeNET programme uses a service called Instant Presenter, which allows us to broadcast video and audio over the internet, whilst showing slides, and facilitating text chat. We can also run polls and quizzes and show applications by sharing a desktop. There is also an online whiteboard facility.

URLs to the conferences will be posted later this week.

You can check that your system meets the requirements on this link.

If you have "issues" you may need to talk to your Network Administrator about allowing access and/or opening ports. You may want to consider working from home or from a wifi hotspot if you do have technical issues accessing the online conferences. It is possible but not recommended to access the conference from a 3G connection.

Recordings

We do record the conferences and they are available later from the MoLeNET Moodle site. If you have further questions, these should be posted to the MoLeNET Moodle site.

We are in the process of re-recording the conferences so that they will be available for download onto a mobile device or watched in a browser (without needing to access the instant presenter site).
